We've designed LangMate with safety at its core. Here's how we protect every person on the platform.

How LangMate keeps you safe

✅ Identity verification

Every Language Companion is manually verified by our team before appearing in search results. We review their identity documents and only approve genuine, real people.

🔒 Secure payments

All payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS certified payment provider. Your card details are never stored on our servers. Payments are held in escrow until the session is confirmed by both parties.

💬 Protected messaging

Our messaging system automatically removes personal contact details (phone numbers, emails, social handles). This protects your privacy and ensures all session-related communication stays on the platform.

📍 Presence confirmation

Both parties independently confirm each other's presence at the meeting. This creates a mutual record of the session and protects against false claims.

⚠️ Warning system

Companions who cancel late or fail to appear receive formal warnings. After 3 warnings, their account is suspended. This incentivises responsible behaviour.

Safety tips for Travelers

  • Always book through LangMate — never arrange sessions outside the platform.
  • Meet your companion in a public place — a café, library, park or busy street.
  • Tell someone where you are going and who you are meeting.
  • Do not share your hotel address or private accommodation details in messages.
  • Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, leave and report it.
  • Use the in-app messaging system — do not give out your personal contact details.

Safety tips for Language Companions

  • Always meet travellers in public places — never invite them to your home.
  • Check the traveler's profile and reviews before confirming a session.
  • Decline any requests that make you feel uncomfortable — you are never obligated to accept.
  • Keep all communication on the LangMate platform before and during sessions.
  • Report any inappropriate behaviour immediately using the report function.

How to report an issue

If something goes wrong during or after a session, you can report it directly from your dashboard or session confirmation page. Our team reviews all reports within 24 hours.
